A Big Food Bill

A bill in the state capitol would address just who can receive food assistance in Oregon. Under federal law, people who are undocumented are excluded from programs such as SNAP, the country’s largest food assistance program. The proposed bill is called the “Food for All” bill and if passed, it would extend food aid to lawful permanent residents, U.S. Compacts of Free Association citizens, and others here in Oregon who arrived as immigrants or refugees. The bill has 17 co-sponsors in the House and Senate. Lawmakers will hold a public hearing on it, but so far, that has not been scheduled.
