La Grande Police responded to an assault last Sunday at Hoke Hall on the campus of Eastern Oregon University. They say a group of men had detained the suspect and was holding him down until police arrived. 45 year old Philip Thompson of Boise, reportedly was acting strange, yelling and cussing out loud. Witnesses say he punched a student in the face who was pouring a cup of coffee. The student was taken to Grande Ronde Hospital and treated for facial injuries. Thompson is now in the Union County Jail, facing a string of charges. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
