Union County Budget Calling for Cuts

The 2022-23 budget for Union County is up 13%, but as of right now, the proposed budget calls for the elimination of two corrections officers and three sheriff’s deputies. According to Shelley Burgess, the administrative and budget officer for Union County, cutting the five law enforcement positions would save Union County $470,000. No other position cuts are called for in the spending plan approved by the budget committee. The Union County Board of Commissioners will vote on adoption of the budget at its June 29 meeting, which begins at 9 a.m.
